Well, what do you think?
In most plays, (and this IS a play...) the second act is usually the best. It is also the act in which EVERYTHING goes to hell.
So what happens here?

EVERYTHING WILL GO TO HELL! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Actually, I think it's already started with the season finale... It really showed a dark side to Aang that we've only caught glimpses of before.
And a lot of subtle Zuko-development.
Iroh risked everything for a fish. Sound familiar?

Oh come ON. Paku? Gimme a break. Why would they go to the South Pole again, anyway? Its Iroh. Sorry, but your going to be characterless at FB in a year or so. ;D And what about Sokka? I keep saying it's him... why will no one consider it? HE'S USELESS TO THE PLOT. IF SOMEONE GOES IN SELF SACRIFICE, ITS HIM OR IROH, OR MAYBE BOTH. (I'm so passionate about this... ;D)

Yeah, it's sad to say cuz he's so wuvable, but Iroh's going down. There's been waaaay too much foreshadowing- his trip to the spirit world, his comment to Aunt Wu, his being old... I was actualy worried he'd die in the season finale, and afterwards I was thinking "Well, better Yue than Iroh." *is shot*

Regretfully, I must say that Iroh's going to kick the bucket. It's always the wise old mentor-like guys who die, sadly enough. It's the dreaded cliche so that the pupil will have to fight on his own.
*sigh* Oh, Iroh, why must you be so old?
;D

I don't think Iroh's gonna be the one push'n up daisies...I honesly think it's going to be someone that came into the season for a few eppies then dies or Katara...maybe Sokka...Then lots of breakdowns and DIE OZAI!!!....Just a theory

SEE! Somebody else thinks Sokka's gone too! ;D
But for the record, no way in hell is Katara going to die. There isn't another 'girl' to fill that part. She is vital to the plot in that sense, so they can't get rid of her.

It's a painfully clear trend that the old, wise, loveable, and often hillarious character dies off. However, even if you may all think someone as such may die in this next season, I would have to say I disagree.
This next season is Book Two and even after this season there will be more to come. Why would they kill off Iroh so soon? It makes no sense and I think his death will be around the tip of the climax near the end. Iroh's death, I believe, will be of prime importance and not of natural causes (because, we know Iroh may be a bit old, but he's still in great shape for an ol' uncle).
Just as an example, think of the Harry Potter Series.
Warning Half Blood Prince Spolier(s)!
Most had the feeling the ol' Headmaster was going to bite the dust sometime, but he didn't die in the second book now did he? No. His death was one of the most shocking parts of the whole series and was given main importance in the book.
</SPOLIER>
So you see... I'm not saying it will never happen, but I'm not of the belief that it will happen anytime soon.
Oh and Nakamura... Sokka useless to the plot? You HAVE got to be kidding me.

What's he got in it? I don't mean sprirutally, I mean physically. Like I've posted on FB before, Avatar could have either a happy OR a sad ending, with multiple possibilities for each. I mean, sorry, but Sokka really doesn't... belong! He's not too strong a warrior, not a keen thinker, and the only times episodes even SLIGHTLY focused on him were Siege of the North (small parts) and the Kyoshi Islands. Nothing else.
I mean, my ending for Avatar would be that Sokka dies near to the end of the series fighting to save Katara, entrusting Aang at his death bed to keep her safe. Aang of course, agrees, and this cements the romanc that has been growing throughout the series. In the end however, it wasn't meant to be. Although Aang severely weakens Ozai, he eventually is hit with fire, and is taken for dead. Zuko, however, appears, chasing Aang, and kills his father when he has a chance to. Meanwhile, on the Agni Kai floor near there, where the battle took place, Aang isn't dead. Katara tries to heal him but fails. She cries into him, and he say they'll meet in the next life. It ends with everything shrouded in smoke, leaving the possibility of another story to be told...
How's THAT? I love sad yet happy endings... they make no sense. Therefore, you feel raw emotion towards them. It's... so gratifying to read stories like that. I read one recently on Fiction Press that had me crying at it's end, although the ending was a happy one. (Kind of...)
Any other thoughts on this? I don't mean he'll die next season BTW, I just mean that in the beginning of the 'second act', where-ever that is, someone WILL die.

Haven't you ever heard of the comic relief? If Sokka wasn't there, would you enjoy Avatar half as much? I wouldn't. Sokka's there because not only of his wit, but because he's there to symbolize the human in all of us.
Sokka's there to represent the nonbenders in the world. The common ones. The human part in all of us who are far from perfect, but have the will to succeed. He's very crucial in the series and in the whole meaning of Avatar.

Sokka is the human in the Avatar and him being killed off would ruin the balance of the show. Now, if Iroh dies, I will be very upset. He is one of my favorite characters as well as comic relief. I don't think that they would kill him off, but you never know. Its true, the best wise characters good first; but Iroh is important; not only to the basis of the show, but to the characters, such as Zuko in other words. Iroh is basically all that Zuko has left family wise. Iroh needs to be there for Zuko. It would be diffiucult to kill off Iroh because of Zuko in other words.

SPOLIERS!!!
Try to control your spazes of excitement. Check out what I found on Wiki today....
Reportedly, during the 2006 Golden Globe Awards, Adam Johnson interviewed Anthony Lioi, one of the directors of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Lioi told Johnson that Nickelodeon will release a teaser for Book 2: Earth by the end of January. He offered details on the season premiere, called “The Avatar State,” which will flashback to past episodes. The second episode will see the debut of Zuko’s sister, Zula, with a war balloon in her arsenal. He also mentioned that a Zuko/Katara relationship “might just blossom over the new season.” He stated that the second season will be darker and add more depth, adding that audiences should “expect the unexpected.”
Zutara?! NOOO!!!
But otherwise.. pretty sweet, huh?
