Please no more questions or comments around the site about the current and temporay rule of no benders. I'm going to say this once and put it out of my mind, and no, I'm not changing it.
We have given our reasons for it. Benders make only 1/3 of the population in the Avaverse, and a result, we're only allowing 40% of the characters on our site to be benders (which, for those who don't know, is MORE than 1/3).
If you have a complaint, hold your tongue. I'm not here to please everyone, Lord knows I can't do it. I do it for those who want a realistic, interesting site. I do it for the people looking for this type of site. I don't expect everyone to like it, but I don't care. I'm here to cater to the people who want this kind of thing. If you don't like it, grin and bear it or leave, take your pick. There are others who will enjoy this site.
If you really have a problem with it, post here. If you have a suggestion or a question, post it here. I don't want any more hijacked threads or new threads for this topic. Thank you and good night.

An annoucement will be made and there will be much celebration on a part of the members and much griping on a part of the mods as we watch the percentages SKYROCKET once again to out of porpotion numbers.

Perhaps make a decree that no one can have a bender who does not first have a non-bender char that has been used in 1 RP? That'd make sure that the percentages raise at at least even rates.

But then, the second someone gets their hands on a bender the non-bender falls by the wayside. I doubt that's a desired outcome.

Yes, but we all realize that the moment we allow benders again, the percentages will rise. So we need a way to discourage benders and enocurage the fact that benders are rare, special and not the coolest aspect of the show.

No, benders are not the coolest aspect. We have a world with a rich, vibrant colorful history that is presented to us. We are given so much room to work with. We've been given the Kyoshi Warriors, the Yu Yan Archers, the Rough Rhinos, The Northern Air Temple Refugees, the citizens of Ba Seng Sei! There is a war going on! Soliders of all types, with exotic weaponry and fighting skills! Political intrigue! Royal Families from all the nations. Nobles scheming for a throne! Families just trying to survive. Artisans! Artists! Dancers! Travelers! Gypsies!
Benders are not what Avatar is about.
The world and its people is what Avatar is About.

Hi I know I'm nothing but a guest right now (plan on joining as soon as I make my character bio) but I do see what you mean by benders not being the coolest/only aspect of Avatar. What the benders in Avatar are doing is no different then what the mutants were doing in the Xmen (or the DC comcis if you don't like Marvel) comics.
The plot is what makes Avatar rule.

Hi I was thinking I might join once I have a look around your site but regarding your "bender problem" I have a sugestion. Maybe after the RP-er has made a certin nuber of quality post (I mean they have excillent spelling and grammar, an interestion plot ect.) you offer if they want the character they are playing to become a bender.Instead of letting them create a new character who will push the first non-bender carrie into the back of the attic. Also since we don't know how the Avatarians find out they are benders the RP-er if they except writes a post on how they discovered their bending ability. Well any way it is just a suggestion.  |

Good Idea Miki. Just to let you know, there is a huge topic on the Moderator's private board where we've been discussing how to allow benders back in and limit their numbers for weeks now. We'll consider your idea as we're always open to new ones.
As for the how benders discover their abilities.. Somewhere, months ago when Avatar started, I heard or read about benders discovering their abilities as children around the age of 4-6. This is espically important for firebenders as you know the destruction that Fire can cause therefore the children need to learn how to control their bending from a very early age. This idea seems to be standard around the Ava-verse and is thus what we here at Feng Shui follow.
