BTW, does anybody else think that something weird is going on between Tarlok and Amon? I mean, Tarlok seems to be a smart guy- granted that this is a children's show, I can't see a politician being SO STUPID as to do EXACTLY what his enemy wants.
Or maybe he is. *shrug* Who knows. Just something there.

Jialing, Republic city doesn't have to be thoroughly modern to ask--especially since it's a sort of "past that never was." Also we can always expand outwards from the city and United Republic proper as time goes on. Nor do PCs have to all be from, living or staying in the Republic.
And one of the things I recall about FS is that limitations tended to breed invention/innovation (take your pick). Both with short term and long term characters we've had. Having our heavy focus strapped to Republic City shouldn't become any different for any player. Already at [probably the only] other Korra RPG around I've seen among the expected profiles of probender athletes, bending mobsters, and equalists, there was also a gumshoe, illegal surgeon (Sekar is that you?), school teacher and jazz musician in the pile.
So there's a box, what now? =p
Hibiki, I'm leaning on Tarlok not being ignorant but likely being a "mah way is dah best way so do it!" type of person. Especially when that type of person has power. Maybe he has one of those personalities that Amon anticipated and would (re)act exactly as anticipated (which can be entertaining to do to people--or so I'm told ;>.>). Or maybe there is some thread tying the two together.
But I guess after this episode we may get to see what's outside of Republic City once more.

I still think we ought to try playing in the Korra timeline. :/
I must be weird.

I definitely see your point, Jia, although personally I'm really liking the more modern setting. Maybe that's just my personal preference though. Chamir makes an excellent point. Yes, the box might be a bit smaller if you go with Republic City as the setting, but I think you just might be surprised with what people will come up with for characters. Sure, you're going to end up pro benders, cops, and equalists...but I imagine you're going to have more than just those types as well. I think for simplicity sake...I wouldn't do this during the Korra timeline. Maybe some years before, after Aang has died but the new Avatar has yet to come on the scene. It gives you a pretty wide open area to play with, just perfect to come up with your OWN personal plotty thing of doom. .....posting before caffeine...maybe not so good. Anyway, ALSO added benefit to that is you don't inadvertently end up making a storyline that later conflicts with something that happens way down the line. Not that this was a huge issue before, but yeah, figured I'd toss that out.

Hibiki, Yes, yes you are weird.
Auina, My verging thoughts exactly. Especially with how fast things seem to be moving in the show, it could take a bit of trail and error to get our pacing and footing at first. Yet even with the lack of info, the time between Aang&Korra still gives you almost two decades to play with.
We'll see what develops.

Hibiki - I'm not necessarily against it, never have been. Just trying to figure out what would be best for us.
If the majority gathered here wants Republic City centered RP, Then we shall have that. Now to figure out the time...
This is where I'd maybe break my usual standard position of DON'T MESS WITH CANON.. and I think playing in the Korra Time will get us the most activity.
I'm just worried about fanon characters interferring with the canon..

Hrm... normally I would also agree, Jia. My naruto site is having that problem RIGHT now, but for some reason I feel like a lot of the interaction wouldn't quite matter too much, especially since there really aren't that many canons. (Dibs on Gommu ) Even less so because I think a lot less of the interaction on a LoK site would be fighting and battles which are obviously a lot of times more significant than just speaking and interacting normally. I'd also imagine than anyone wanting to play a canon would probably be pretty interested in playing out all the events that have already happened. (They've been pretty good) My vote is for the current time current place LoK RP. Naturally I like the other one, but I think this one's the best choice.

No matter what happens, I am totally getting a Pabu avvy/siggy set. Because seriously, the only thing wrong with Momo was that he wasn't ginger. And Pabu fixes that.

hay y'all, i'm still floating around just in case anyone missed me. which i'm sure someone did. (anyone? T__T) ummm! yeah, three pages is a lot for me to read through these days, so i'm just gonna jump right in and say i vote for a LoK-themed site, if only because that's what's airing right now, it's what's popular, and you'll have a better chance at snagging new members because people like korra. idk i had a really good point to make but i can't remember it...hi everybody! i wanna rp too~~

[ WARNING: A LOT OF THE THINGS I'M ABOUT TO PUT IN THIS PARAGRAPH IS GOING TO BE REALLY IRRELEVANT TO MOST, OR ALL. ] Hi Guyz! i guess you could say Im a new member to this site so don't killz me over my lousy opinions lol I was a member of another site called "Flying Bison" which I think was the sister site of this site. I don't remember exactly. But I was on their from 2006-2007 [ Yuskae Yukiatsu ] was my character on their. The only person on here that I think was on while I was their was Problem Aden, if that guy still exist. But anyways, I think that we are all starting to lean toward the vision of keeping the the world pretty small with leaving things in republic city as to avoid to much controversy. But I ultimately think that the problems are going to lie with the Cannon characters and Custom created characters. ( That is once we get the plot and settings figured out. ) But I think a lot of the problems with having cannons is that a lot of the custom created characters are being left out while all the cannon characters are pretty much left to get all the glory in the plot. Not to say that I'm saying that I want cannon characters gone before anyone killz me lol But basically I'm just asking if other PC are going to be able to get just as much involvement in the plot as the cannons. Ive been on lots of sites were other PC have been left out because all the Admins want to focus on are the Cannons. And to a certain extent i can understand that cause they are the main characters. I'm just saying are other PC gonna get any major involvement in whatever plot you guyz decides to come up with??? Hope i wasn't waaaaaaaaayyyy off topic

I'm just saying are other PC gonna get any major involvement in whatever plot you guyz decides to come up ...You obviously haven't even been on Feng Shui or even read much around here have you? *Clears throat and whips open a scroll* From the description of the site at the top of each page. "Feng Shui - An Avatar: The Last Airbender RPG is an Avatar RPG that loosely follows the progression of the series but focuses more on the citizens of the nations who are affected by the war. The Avatar may be here to save the world, but we're here to tell the stories of the soldier, the farmer and the forgotten child. " We have never focused on the Canon Characters. We had them but ONLY to keep the plot moving, and we could never even get very many of them filled. I believe I speak for The remaining staff, the original members and myself when I say we will not be an RPG that focuses more on the canon (It's Canon, NOT CANNON.. that's a piece of military artillery) characters. If anything, they will be played simply to keep the overarching plot going. When we were running the plot of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the original characters rarely interacted with the canon characters, if ever. I can only remember once incidence when Ozai's Angels fought against some originals. We expected our original characters to create their own plots and stories within the world that was changing due to the influence of the Aang Gang and the 100 years' war. I suspect it will be much the same if we relaunch under Korra. Canons will be expected to create their own stories that can and will be affected by the actions of Amon, the Equalists, the Republic City Council, and the new Team Avatar but there will probably be very little interaction. *rolls scroll up* Ah.. there's the old Jialing. Felt good to be an asshole again.

All input is welcome Yuskae. But don't take Jia's reply too close to heart. She's always been like that. And the years have probably done little to soften that. >.>; Think of her as one of those stern leaders whose a big ol' softy marshmallow on the inside... who sometimes uses you for a scratching post.
In other news: Tenzin is making me want a new cape/cloak (yes, that means I already own at least one). And on account of the latest episode, "Out of the Past," if I'm not careful then I'll end up using 'Amon' as a term for when you're already having a bad day(s) that suddenly turns to utter BAD!. Especially when you're entering a room/situation.
"Seriously?! My day was already terrible, now you've just made it Amon!"
