I still think we ought to try playing in the Korra timeline. :/ I must be weird. Thought you were okay with Korra timeline??? That's what I want. The Korra timeline, As in, during the show.

Unless I misunderstood, that's the timeline being proposed, Hibiki. Jia can correct me there, with extreme prejudice if need be. xD

yeah, i like the idea of the korra timeline more, especially having the main setting being republic city. i dunno about you guys, but having characters strewn all over the world is boring when you're on the igni islands by yourself (rip iola T_T) and hard to bring like-minded people together when you're in ba sing se and he's in omashu. or something. what was i saying? awww yeeeah ikki's grandkids are driving cars! HONK HONK >

My grandfather actually owns a Model A. >D I think that gives me first call on car drivers.
EDIT: I got the first two Promise comics. They're GOOD.

So.. the question of the day is.. How do we want to work with bending? Obviously with the new United Republic people from various nations are mixing. However, I believe the creators of the show have stated you can only bend what your parents bent. I.E. Katara and Aang's children are a water bender, a non bender, and a air bender. Tenzing's children are all air benders because he's the only bender in the family, Pema is not and as we remember all air normads were benders (Poor Pema. She'll never get her non-bender..). Zuko's children (a daughter and a grand son as far as we know) are probably only fire benders and non-benders assuming he stayed with Mai (Who again.. I reiterate would be an awesome consort).
So.. we need characters to state what their nation heritage is in order for them to determine what they bend. We can't exactly ask them 'What nation?' like we used to since the United Republic counts as one of those nations now. Do we ask them for their parental heritage? What nation their ancestors came from? Anyone have a better, nice way of saying this?
Also - I know the coin flips weren't appreciated it. At all. I'd like to get rid of that and maybe just trust people will go with non-benders more? or... what? any ideas?

I'm guessing mixed bending heritage is...a grab bag? Trying to work out how Mako and Bolin are brothers but bend different elements.
And I'm all for forgoing the coinflip. If it GETS to be an issue where we have way too many benders as opposed to nonbenders, we can bring it back.

Well, obviously we can't have two fire bender parents and get a water bender, but there are other implications of the mixing. In the prequel comics "The Promise" a girl who was born in Yu Dao to the mayor of the town (Fire Nation colonial) and an Earth Kingdom woman (his wife) was a loyal "fire nation citizen", but was actually an earthbender. Therefore, canonically, if you have parents on conflicting sides, you can LOOK like a firebender, but bend earth instead. Even looks are now up for grabs. Coin flips sucked, not gonna lie, especially since older members could BUY benders- really put newbies at a disadvantage to play the characters they wanted. Of course, the other issue is, how many times were they mixed? Did they have an earthbender two generations ago, but then all nonbenders in water-tribe and fire-nation since then? How many times were THOSE mixed up before they came into the world? What bending takes precedence? TBH, I think we let them have a heydey with deciding what they can bend, so long as their heritage is believable. I have confidence that A) those who really want to RP a certain character will make it believable in the context of Korra, and B) that those who don't will get shanked by Jia. Overall, I think that people have a much bigger reason to choose non-benders now. I think we can all see WHY they wanted to choose bending before- anybody who wasn't a bender (IE Sokka) just naturally took a back seat to those who did. Or else you basically had to be a ninja or better- and almost nobody wanted to play an outright civilian. Now, though, with the Equalists, even if people want to play civilians (ME! ME! ... mostly) they'll have a very good chance of "getting some action" in Republic City.

It definitely seems to be determined by the parents. Bolin and Mako have one Earth-parent and one Fire-parent. Tenzing had one water-parent, one air-parent.
I think as long as we say you can bend one element your parent represents we're safe.. I think once we start considering grandparents and great-grandparents, it can get hairy. Whether those parents were benders themselves I think is null, as long as the heritage is there.

SPOILER ALERT!This is looking more like Adolf Hitler every second I see it... actually Autsrian, not German. Not actually a non-bender. But I haven't seen Episode 12 yet. It all seemed so FISHY... and they weren't even in Yue Bay. :/ IDK yet. Amon is a freaky guy. And possibly even a LIARLIARPANTSONFIRE! But I need to watch #12 to be sure. ...@_@
... Oh wow. I didn't expect them to end the plot there. ...Uhm.

without going into too much detail for those who still haven't season the season finale, i'll just saw the last 10 minutes was a roller coaster i didn't enjoy riding. like, at all. but the fight scenes were g-narly and the scene on the boat was touching. i teared up an eensy bit. ;o; all together i'd give it a 6/10

Heads up! At least Jialing won't be here for about a week on account of power outages caused by the recent storms. Maybe Ikeru too. I know some of our number live abouts that side of the US. Meanwhile, thanks to A:TLA Annotations site, which is worth checking out by the by, I've come across an comic book resources interview for the next Aang era comic miniseries. This one may FINALLY tell us what happened to and where is Ursa!
