As she walked up, Nakamura looked at her. She looked happy. Okay, so she wasn't... annoyed at him. That was good.
When she joked, he laughed nervously, turning a little red at the same time.
IDIOT. YOU DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT YOU WERE GOING TO DO BEFORE THIS?!
Shut up.
WHAAAT?! It's YOUR fault, NOT mine.
20/20 hindsight buddy. Take a hike.
Okay, fine! Maybe you don't NEED an intuition. So... what ARE you going to do anyway?
Good question...
See? You DO need me! Now come on, Naka, THINK. What do girls like?
Well, YOU'RE my intuition. Why don't YOU tell me?
*Sigh* They want to go somewhere ROMANTIC idiot...
Hold it, HOLD IT... I never even said I LIKED her...
THAT DOESN'T MATTER! THEY STILL LIKE IT!
But-
DO IT!
Why am I being beaten by my intuition?
Hurry up stupid! Before it looks like you're staring!
Okay, okay...
"Do you want to go see something? I think you will like it..." He said this nervously, almost tripping over every word.

Raine watched as Nakamura took his time. She played with the torc on her wrist and twisted time after time sratching at the stones and the silver. Then smoothing her fingers on it back and forth, and back again. Then Nakamura drew her attention when he asked her if she wanted to go see some thing. “Alright, Sure. I’m sure it’ll be fun,” She replied to him in a happy, go-lucky tone, “Just lead the way.” She said motioning him to go first for she had no idea where they were going. After all
‘I wonder where we’re going,” Raine wondered to her self, ‘Should I tell him,’ She thought biting her lip, ‘Or should I wait? Well….Maybe I’ll wait a little while,’ Raine decided as she looked over to Nakamura.

He walked through on the white ground towards the spot he loved. Every night, he went there. It was a beautiful place to look at the sky.
They walked down the main street, over a bridge, and then they were out of the city itself, though not onto the tundra just yet. They began going up a hill. "Be careful... it's slippery." he said to Raine. He was used to it, though, and quickly made it to the top. After that ascent, they cruved through many other hills, going around them. After about 15 minutes of walking, they got to a steep drop-off beside the ocean. It was about 120 feet up, and the sky was beautiful from this much higher position.
He turned and smiled at Raine. "Um... this is where I go... to calm myself. It's beautiful at night..."
The stars shone like miniature lamps, brighter than usual because they were away from the city. The moon, nearly full, glowed with an intensity not witnessed in Shai City.

As Nakamura said to be careful, Raine did just that. As she followed him she kept glancing at the floor to make sure she wouldn’t slip.
Finally they came upon their long awaited arrival. Raine’s mouth opened still staring at the sight, “It’s gorgeous,” She said looking up to the sky.
The two were sitting down on the edge of the cliff, Raine still admiring the stars and the moon, as well as their reflections on the water. But some thing caught her eye. Some thing so familiar she couldn’t tell what it was. She looked down to it and consuntrated on it. But still couldn’t tell what it was. ‘What on Earth?’ She thought. But she decided to worry about it later.
“You know what I’ve always wanted to do? Jump off a cliff in to water.” She randomly stated.

He was pleased that she liked the spot.
SEE! I was RIGHT!
I'd better mark THIS on my calender... that won't happen again...
WHAT?!
Never mind...
Then she said something about jumping off a cliff into water. He looked at her dubiously, one eyebrow arched. "What? Are you sure...?"
He shrugged, looking down at the water, sitting on the edge of the cliff. "I hate heights, actually." She wanted to jump? He might be able to waterbend her back out... but would se trust him? Would it sound stupid if he suggested it? He didn't know.
"But... I suppose, if you wanted to jump... I could get you back out." He looked over at Raine, waiting for an answer.

“Quite sure actually. My uncle always says it’s like flying. Like the air benders do,” Raine said before she began to chuckle, “You’re afraid of heights?” Raine said/ laughed but soon after looked down, “Well I can’t blame you. It is quite far to the water…and I don’t know how deep it is,” Raine said smacking her forehead.
When he said some thing about getting her back up, “What? Just because I’m a girl you think I can’t get up on my own!?” Raine growled at him. There was a pause and she laughed, “You should have seen your face. I’m just kidding but thanks for the offer.” Raine said getting up and looking over the edge, “Now to see how deep the water is,” Raine said bending water up to where she was, “Don’t tell, ok? I’ve gotten the life scared out of me once before and I’m looking foreword to it again.” She said freezing the ice in to a thirty foot pole. She drove the ice pole In to the water with a splash. Then she carefully looked down looking for the tip of it. “Well that settles it,” She said taking of her cloak, “It’s deep enough,” She said as she started to take off her boots, “And it looks like so much fun.” She said walking over to the edge.

He smiled as she said she could understand his fear of heights. She hadn't called him a wimp or anything, that was good. As he heard her talk about him thinking she was inferior because she was a girl, he wanted to say no he didn't think that, but she laughed it off. He was scared she was gonna take his head off for a moment.
Then she waterbended.
She.
She wasn't supposed to waterbend.
He watched as she did it, and remembered what his dad told him.
Girls are not meant for waterbending. That's our job; to protect the others. Their job is to heal, which they've learned freely for hundreds of years. That should be enough.
And yet, here was Raine, doing it like it was nothing.
As she walked to the edge, he grabbed her arm. "Y-you...w-waterbend...can't..."
He just couldn't say it. He didn't want to be mean, or spiteful, and most of all, not sexist, but tradition meant everything to him. She wasn't supposed to waterbend, and she had. He gathered what little courage he had, and said, "Girls aren't supposed to waterbend."
He almost regretted it. Almost.

Raine stopped as Nakamura grabbed her arm. She looked up at him, then to her arm, then to him, then to her arm, then to him stuttering. Raine really didn’t like people touching her. Then came the “Girls aren’t suppose to water bend” crap. Raine really wanted to rip his head off now. Raine gritted her teeth and clenched her fists. Normally she wouldn’t get angry over some thing like this. She’d usually just brush it off like bits of dust. Why did it offend her so much this time? Raine exhaled and relaxed her self. “Nakamura…You have a lot of guts doing what you just did,” She said not looking at him, “But don’t ever touch me again,” She said bitterly yanking her arm away from him, “Let alone tell me what I’ve already heard more than million times. I respect that you want to keep the rules,” Raine inhaled and exhaled again, “Now that that’s over I’ll see you later.” She said leaping off the cliff and coming to a splash as her and the water met. Raine didn’t want to come back up, though her lungs begged to differ.

He watched almost painfully as she glared at him. She was MAD. More mad than most girls got. Hell, more dad than most DADS got.
And that anger was directed at him. Ouch.
And then she ripped her arm from him. That was expected. Even welcome. He didn't really want to do that... but... it had been necessary as he saw it.
Then she dove. WHOO boy, that was a long way down. So he improvised. He created a slide, and he slid down towards the water, creating ice as he went along, so he didn't fall in the water. He slid to a stop, eventually, and began walking around the water looking for Raine. If something happened to her, he'd kill himself... he'd deserve it...
Great job idiot... now she DEFINATELY doesn't like you
WOULD YOU PLEASE SHUT UP?!
...No.
Damn you...
Get over yourself man! You shouldn't have done that. First thing tommorrow, go apologize.
I can't do that! I have to tell-
DON'T TELL A SOUL! IT ISN'T RIGHT!
But it's tradition-
Who gives a crap? Go apologize. Or you'll ruin her life.
That broke his heart. He decided that's what he'd do. As he looked out over the ice, he bugged his knees and cried. "I'm sorry..." he said brokenly, to nothing, nobody.

Raine dove under Nakamura’s newly made “ice slide”. She swam to the other side and kept swimming. Raine emerged from the water a way away from Nakamura. She looked back at him, his back turned to wards her and she dove under once again and swam away around a cliff.
Raine tiredly came to the old pipe. Instead of water bending the ice off the entrance, she just kept striking it blow after blow until the ice broke and her hand was bruised. Raine walked through the tunnel, nearly freezing with no shoes and no cloak to warm her. She also didn’t really dry her self off so that didn’t help. She entered her haven and collapsed on the animal pelts, wrapping her self in one of the other ones. Her lips were a shade of light purple and from the cold. She curled up and wrapped her self in more skins. She let her bruised hand hang out for it hurt when it was covered. Raine didn’t want to talk to any one right now. She just wanted to be alone.
Raine woke up still in her sanctuary late in the morning. She didn’t bother to get up; she just closed her eyes and thought to her self. ‘I know why I was so mad. I know why my grandmother didn’t want me in here all the time. For once I had the nerves to water bend I would feel free, like it was no big deal. That’s why it hurt so much when Nakamura told me.’ Raine sighed regretting what she had said to him. “I’m sorry Nakamura,” She said sighing eyes still closed, as she once again drifted into sleep.

When Nakamura finally left the ice on the water, it was almost sunrise. His father was waiting for him as he walked in the door. "Where were you?"
"Out."
His father bristled. "Don't you talk to me that way, young man."
Nakamura yawned, and scratched the back of his neck. "Father, I've had a crappy night. Gimme a break."
His father arched an eyebrow. "With a girl?"
Nakamura sighed in frustration. "NO FATHER." He turned and began walking to his room. His father raised his arm, and bended some ice over his legs.
"Nakamura, you will leave when-" He stopped, in amazement, as Nakamura kicked through the ice.
He turned, a glare in his eyes, as for the first time in his life, he showed up his father. "I will leave NOW. I need to be alone for a while. After that, I'll accept whatever punishment you choose to lay down on me. Till then..."
He turned and walked to his room, leaving a stunned father in his wake. Nakamura grinned. That felt good, even if he was going to pay for it later. He'd never argued with his father before... Maybe he should apologize? No... his father had deserved it.
He flopped down on his bed, after changing into his bedclothes (blue short sleeve shirt, and blue long pants, normal, not much embroidery), and fell asleep.

Raine opened her eyes for the second time that morning. She still didn’t want to be around any one, she just wanted to rest by her self, all alone. She cracked her knuckles and blinked her eyes. Raine slightly yawned and sat up and then soon after she crossed her legs. Raine sang a song her mother used to sing to her. Her voice wasn’t very good, but she didn’t care. Raine straightened up and let out her voice. Sitting here in loneliness No one else can tell me less Everyone has gone on home Leaving me all alone
Sometimes I want to scream Sometimes I want to cry But I have to keep at least a little hope
My eyes are filled with water To wipe them away? I won’t bother I’m still ok here And that’s why I sing Raine hugged her knees and took a deep breath. Raine got up and walked over to the stream. She hopped over the small, clear blue stream over to the over side. Raine walked to the basket of fruit and got a moon peach. She sunk her teeth in to the ripe fruit as its sweet juices filled her mouth, and so after she walked back over to the animal pelts. She felt better so she wrapped her self up with a pelt and sighed.

He stayed there the entire day, and through the night, thinking about what he had done. Was I... right? Or wrong...? What should I do...?
Answers were not forthcoming.
He sighed, and fell into a deep sleep.
***
When he awoke the next morning, he heard lots of yelling from outside. He got washed up, ran outside, and looked for what was happening.
THAT answer was forthcoming. A girl was being pushed through the streets. He looked at her as a gawker would. Her clothes were in tatters, her hair was in a knot, tangled everywhere, her face matted with blood. Her own? Maybe.
Her hands were tied in front of her, and girls from the crowd were being pushed forward, several crying, and several mothers trying to hold them there. Once they were away from their parents, the girls were tied the same as the other one was, and led towards the prison.
He pushed through the crowd, accosting one of the waterbenders. "What the hell is going on?"
He looked at him cooly. "You didn't know?"
Nakamura raised an eyebrow. The waterbender sighed. "I guess not. The girl attempted to kill the interim master yesterday, because she was so frustrated with having to hide her secret. She'll most likely face execution." He smiled, enjoying it. Nakamura shuddered. "Any suspected female waterbenders are being rounded up. Do you know any, by the way?"
Raine.
Oh my God.
He tried to keep the same expression. "Of c-course not... I would have turned them in already." he spread a nervous grin across his face.
The man bought it. "Oh well." he said, flashing a grin. "Good hunting, young one."
Nakamura thanked him, and hurried away.
Oh god, Raine... I have to warn her.
This went against tradition. This went against his father. This went against everything.
To HELL with everything.
He had to help her.

Raine’s mother ran around the city looking for her daughter. She ran through alleys and streets, bridges and walk ways, healing huts and training areas, “I know there’s some where I’mn forgetting to look!” She yelled. She was going crazy. There was nothing more dangerous than an over stressed, worried to death mother. Especially if it was Raine’s mother. Then Raine’s mother looked in front of her and saw that boy Raine was with yesterday. ‘It’s that boy! What was his name!?..’ Raine’s mother screamed at her self in her mind, ‘Nara….Naska….Ugh!’ She gasped, “ Nakamura!” She yelled at him grabbing his arm, “Where is my daughter, Raine!? She didn’t come home last night and the last person she was with was you! I swear if you turned her in you will really regret it. There is nothing worse than a mother’s rage for her missing daughter!,” She screamed at him. “Where is she???”

Nakamura heard someone running up behind him. It was Raine's mom. She ran up to him, screamed at him for a while, then grabbed his arm. He backed away fearfully...
"I-I haven't seen her... and I haven't turned her in..."
He looked at the ground, shamefacedly. "I'm sorry..."
What are you going to do NOW stupid head?
SHUT UP. EMERGENCY SITUATION.
Emergency? Pish-tosh. This is a perfect way to get her mom to like you-
Bye.
WHAT?! You can't just toss you're mind out!
Then shut up.
Okay...
He looked up. "Ma'am... we need to find her."
