Sai ran as fast as he could down a canal with the sun beating down his his neck. A warm summer day...in the North Pole? How is this possible? Around him, benders, who are not used to mild weather, kept the ice frozen as it started the melt into puddles. Almost all the master's students got assignments to keep the Water Tribe frozen! Sai was ordered by his teacher to run around the tribe, for endurance training.
Sai continued running as sweat drops to the ground. He looked around him and saw men frantically keeping the walls up, some even with shirts off because of the warmth. He did the same as well. He slowed down, to a halt, and sat down on the edge of a walk, and his head fell back along with his arms stretched out the the side... The sun was now directly above him. Eyes blinded, he turned over on his side, and fell asleep.

Warm weather was thought to be a physivcal impossibility in the Northern Watre Tribe, but apparently, it wasn't. This was the hottest day Ayame had ever seen, but it made her cheerful. Nothing wrong with a little change, right?
Ayame had heard that the waterbender boys were trying to keep the city frozen. And while Ayame was not a bender, she thought that maybe there was something she could help with. But when she got to them, all the answers she got were the same:
"What can a nonbender, and a girl do?"
"Get Lost."
And while the comments became more irritating and sexist, Ayame still walked along the city, looking for something to do. She walked outside the walls (which were melting) and saw a young boy laying down. Is he OK? she thought, her nosiness kicking in. She walked up to him, and kneeled down.
"Hey, you alive?" she asked, giving him a little nudge.

Sai was fast asleep, dreaming about the Water Tribe filling with snow, wind blustering, and ice dancers entertaining the tribe, and felt a nudge on his side. He opened an eye...."wha- .... eh?" He found a girl next to him, looking down. "Um... yes, I'm fine, thanks. I fell asleep." He looked up, and saw that the sun had shifted a little bit, and remembered of his teacher, ordering him to run. "I should've be back to the training area by now! Class is already over!" He shot up and frowned.
As it was a little bit cooler, Sai splashed water over his face and body, and put his kimono back on. He stood up properly and smiled. He looked back to the girl who woke him and asked, "So... what's up with you? You seem upset... "

"Not upset," she said, standing up along with the boy. He seemed nice enough, and he wasn't dead, which was always a plus. "Well, not upset persay..."
She grinned, and went on.
"It seems as though when the slightest interesting thing happens around here, no one's affected, ya know? Everything's always the same around here, and there's a war going on, where crazy things are going on every minute!"
She then realized she was rambling, to a complete stranger.
"So I guess I'm more dissapointed then upset, but I stay positive. Sorta." Her grin became wider, but she decided to change the subject.
"Glad you're OK," Ayame said, "A few kids had to taken to the healers' hut 'cause the weather was so out of whack. Weird, huh? I guess the spirits weren't so happy with us.....
"By the way, I'm Ayame. What about you?"

Sai straitened himself out, un-kinked the wrinkles on his shirt, cleared his throat and introduced himself. "I'm Sai, nice to meet you! I guess, the moon spirit has been hiding...even the ocean has been retreating. I don't understand why..." The War made Sai think of all the men who went to fight, and someday he will also. Having a large family, his father couldn't leave. " I have a feeling that you want to make a difference, help out... as do I. I asked my instructer if I could help the other men keep the Tribe up, but he said 'NO! Run the laps!' with an angry face. He usually wasn't like this, but I guess the heat got to him." Sai realized he was rambling along, as he did when he was nervous, and Ayame probably didn't even care about the slightest thing he was saying.

"Adults," she said airily, "can't live with them, can't live without them." Ayame pondered over what she just said, and then went on, "Well, it's more you need them than you don't, but don't let them know that." She giggled.
"Yeah, that's it...."
Now that Ayame knew that she knew what she was talking about, she went on.
"I'd love to go out and help!" she said, "My brother's out there right now, meeting up with our brothers from the south. He sends me letters; not often, and it's slow, but it gets here. He even sent me this pendant," She held up the pendant that hung around her neck, "It wards off bad spirits."
Ayame looked at the pendant fondly, and then at he club hanging on her sash. She remembered the last time she saw her brother; she missed him.
Ayame shrugged. "Well, at least the Avatar's back. That's something no one expected." she smiled warmly when she remembered her brother's reaction when he first found out.

Sai looked at the pendent, "Wow, that's so pretty... My older brothers are gone and back all the time. Some are fighting, some are working, some are just at home. My youngest one is normally at home, or with friends... I would love to help also, you know! I would love to get out, fight in the war, help the Avatar, whatever that can make a difference. My father said when I'm a few years older, I could go and fight! I bet he said that just because the war may be over since the Avatar has returned.... I feel bad that you can barely do anything though, how about healing?" Sai felt he was going on and on again, and she probably didn't care about his family problems.
He looked up, as the sun shifted once more and brought the temperatures a bit cooler, but the next thing that happened was unexpected. The ground started shaking, trembling. "FIRE NATION!" screamed children and some mothers. Worried citizens were bouncing up and down on the walkways, bridges collapsing as people splashed into the water, and screams of people could be heard from far away... But it couldn't be the Fire Nation, they are not that powerful... Then, buildings that were just fixed, fell down to the ground, as quick waterbenders tried to hold them up. "It's an earthquake!" yelled Sai, and others finally clicked that in, yes, an earthquake.

Hoji turned over in his sleep, still restless after a long night. His unkempt black hair was sticking messily up in every angle, a few strands rising and falling with is breath.
Suddenly he was jolted out of his bed and onto the ground by a shock that jolted the very foundations of his house. Sitting up, Hoji glared at the wall across from his bed in the dimly lit room. The entire house was shaking as Hoji slowly got to his feet, using a wall for support.
His eyes widened in fear. His house was coming down! He ran outside and concentrated hard.
Hoji breathed in deeply and exhaled, raising his arms up while trying to keep balance on the shaking walkway. He pulled his hands toward his body, palms out and facing the once-collapsing building.
Water raised up from the canals in time to Hoji's movements and trickled along the cracks of the boys house, stabilizing it against the earthquake.

Sai saw people everywhere, running out of collapsing houses. A large crack appeared in the huge ice-gate of the Tribe, and then it broke in half, then quarters, then eighths, and crumbled to the ground. The large shaking of the quake diminished, as people stood up from the walks and collapsed buildings. It suddenly became quiet as people observed their surroundings, and Sai saw a very smart boy, whose house seemed to be one of the standing, and he was bending water to stabilize his house...how clever. Sai's observation was interrupted by the Cheif of the tribe standing high on the large steps. The Cheif said:
As you can all see, an earthquake has occurred here at the Northern Water Tribe. This earthquake was centered possibly far from here. Many of the houses are still standing, but some are not. Our tribe looks like the Fire Nation attacked us, but we can still clean up. It will be hard, though, because temperatures are still predicted to be very high. All my family asks for is that everyone helps and stays calm. Thank you!
Sai understood the King's message and looked around and saw his proud tribe already helping. He said to Ayame, "I think this is your chance to help..." Then, he walked over to the clever boy he saw and asked, "How... how did you do that?"

Hoji watched out of the corner of his eyes as the large gates fell into the deep sea of the North Pole. He frowned and gritted his teeth, using all his energy to hold up his house.
He relaxed slightly, realizing that the earthquake was over. Sighing he moved a hand over his head and then across his body, solidifying and stabilizing his house, now safe from the threat of collapse. He walked over and surveyed his work, satisfied that it would hold in case of an aftershock.
The King spoke and Hoji resisted the nearly overpowering urge to roll his eyes.
Thanks for telling us King states-the-obvious. He thought, turning around to survey the great amount of damage the shift had caused. Hoji shook his head, this meant quite a few days without training under Pakku.
He glanced at the other boy who had spoken to him, then turned his gaze back to the destroyed ice buildings of his people.
"Waterbending, how else?"

The heat started to still fade, but it was still warm, and Sai was still sweating, mainly because of the scurries and excitement of the earthquake. His hair was damp because of the water splashing, and his clothes were drenced with water, which sort of helped the heat go away. Sai walked a little closer to Hoji, leaving Ayame a little behind him, but he still knew she was there. "I know, but how?!" He was just.... amazed! This sort of motivated him to bend, knowing the wonders of it.
Sai looked around, seeing many benders setting the Tribe back up. He knew that the Tribe could now survive almost anything: Fire nation attacks, the war in general, abnormal heat and humidity, and now even earthquakes!
He slowly brought out his hand and introduced himself, "Er.. hello, I'm Sai. This is Ayame, I just met her today..."

Hoji raised an eyebrow at the younger boy, slightly annoyed already.
"Alright, Sai is it? I'm Hoji." he asked, not really expecting an answer. Hoji held his left hand in his right, massaging the tough skin on his palm. He looked back at his house, his eyes going over his swift repairs, checking again for any weaknesses.
"I just thought about what I had to do and then I did it. It's all about control and knowing exactly what you need to do." Hoji explained, his eyes still retracing his frozen stabilizers.
The boy looked at Sai and frowned slightly. This other boy looked familiar, as if Hoji had seen him around somewhere before. The water bender frowned even more.
Hoji prided himself on his excellent memory and education, not knowing someone annoyed him slightly. If this boy was a noble Hoji should know him, or at least know his family.
"Are you a noble? I think that I might have noticed you around the palace before."

"COMING THROUGH!!" Shouted a lanky boy in a dark blue tunic. He had dark hair and clear blue eyes. A pierced right ear and a lock of hair with a bead in it. Kavik was on his ice gliders and was rushing around the city, slipping every so often. He was at the pond near by, when the earthquake hit. Knocking him off balance and throughing him on the hard surface. So he rushed on his gliders and with some grace. He sprinted to find his twin, Kokomi.
Leaped over barrel and continued to sped forward. "Gods this is hard during this weather." Kavik turned a corner and hoped that Kokomi was ok. He started slidding again. "Uh oh.." The waterbender teen began to lose control, and slipped down the road, he tried to regain balance but the melting ice made it diffcult, he managed to shout out. "INCOMING!" before slidding into Hoji. "WHAMMM!"

A shout reached Hoji's ears and he turned to see the commotion. A boy from his waterbending class was running, finding it hard to gain traction on the slippery surface. Suddenly he slipped and went skidding along the icey pathways.
Hoji's eyes barely had time to widen before he was knocked down from the force of Kaviks momentum. Hoji's body slammed into his house, the reenforced ice of the building not doing anything to cushion the blow.
The waterbender stood up slowly, brushing bangs from his eyes. He glared at Kavik and strode over to the other boy, still slightly sore.
"You should be more careful Kavik." Hoji growled, his arms crossed. "You could have toppled more buildings, injured innocent people, fallen into the canals." The boy shook his head, closing his eyes.
"Hopefully you would have fallen into the canal. It would have given me more time to practice bending you out of the water."

Sai gapsed as this crazy boy (ice gliding?! What the-) stumbled upon Hoji. Hoji is definitely going to be irritated... Hoji didn't seem like that 'liking' type of person. Then this clumsy boy who didn't seem to bright (ice gliding in this warm weather?) entered the situation. How convienient.... "Are you two alright?!" He offered his hands to both boys, one clumsly, the other clever, not a good mix...
Before his arms fully extended, the tremor started again. It was an aftershock! It was small, but still. Sai slipped on the ice, falling bottom first on the ground. Sai was really getting irrated himself. His clothes were torn, he was drenced, and all these people just poofed into this situation. The Cheif spoke out again:
Er...there seems to have been another tremore, but no worries! Everyone just stay calm! I'm sure it's all over! Thank you!
All over, right.
